Product Details

Epaderm Ointment contains liquid paraffin, cetomacrogol emulsifying wax and yellow soft paraffin. Because there's no water in it, there's nothing to preserve — which is why the pack can say free from fragrances, colourings and preservatives, and why it's suitable for babies and children. The water-free formula makes Epaderm Ointment richer and more occlusive than Epaderm Cream, making it particularly well suited to very dry skin and overnight use.

It as a rich emollient for the management of eczema, psoriasis and other dry skin conditions, with three uses: as an emollient, as a skin cleanser, and as a bath additive.

How to Use

As an emollient: smooth a small amount onto the skin in the direction of hair growth. Reapply as often as needed.
As a skin cleanser: apply to the skin, then rinse with warm water or wipe off with a clean towel.
As a bath additive: melt approximately 4g in a container of hot water. Allow it to cool sufficiently, then add the mixture to the bath. Never apply hot water directly to the skin.

How is this different from Epaderm Cream?

Format and formula. The ointment is water-free, richer and more occlusive, with three ingredients and no preservatives, in a tub. The cream is lighter and faster-absorbing, with six ingredients, in a pump. Plenty of people use both — the cream through the day, the ointment overnight.

Does it wash off in the bath?

It's designed to go in it. Mölnlycke list bath additive as one of its three uses: melt about 4g in hot water, let it cool enough, then add it to the bath. It also works as a cleanser applied directly and rinsed off.

Is it greasy?

Yes, and deliberately so. An ointment is richer and more occlusive than a cream, which is why it suits very dry skin and overnight use rather than getting dressed straight afterwards.
